Pink Flamingos roam freely around the gardens at Jungle Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. You can walk right up to them and feed them out of your hand. They are very gentle and fun to watch. They often tuck their bill into their feathers to take a nap. Sometimes they will all honk at the same time and move their heads in synchronization as they run across the grass. They like to wade their bills back and forth in the water looking for something to eat. I took a series of both color and black and white photos of them. This photo is available in black and white (See"Awake, Black and White").

  • Monet's Waterlily Pond, Giverny, France

    Monet's Waterlily Pond, Giverny, France

Claude Monet's garden and home in Giverny, France is about an hour west of Paris in the countryside near Normandy. In the late 1800's Monet discovered Giverny while riding by on a train. He fell in love with this quaint town and soon rented a home near the river. Later he purchased the home and spent over a decade designing and planting his famous garden. He diverted the nearby river to fill an area in the back for his waterlily pond and green Japanese bridge. Officials originally opposed his plans, but after finding out it was the famous artist they approved. Monet's garden is around 2 acres in size and the lush cottage garden near the pink and green home is filled with all kinds of paths, trellises, and flowers, smelling heavenly. The center of the garden is focused on a wide path lined with rows of rose-covered arbors. Monet spent much time outdoors painting in his impressionist style, especially scenes of his garden. Monet lived around 40 years in his home. This image is also available in black and white. To read about our adventure in Europe, please see my husband's book, "Vagabonds in France" by Michael A.Barry on Amazon.

  • Vagabonds in France Book Cover, Front and Back

Vagabonds in France Book Cover, Front and Back

"Vagabonds in France" is a lighthearted book written by my husband (pen name Michael A. Barry) about our travel adventures in France, its amazing beauty, and all the humorous cultural differences and "what the hell" moments you can get a kick out of. Find out how life threw a lemon at us, and we made it into lemonade. Putting all our stuff in storage, we left everything behind to experience an adventure of a lifetime, with no return date or home to come back to. Exploring for 9 weeks, we traveled from Florida (Tampa and Key West), to Portugal (Funchal, Madeira), to Spain (Malaga, Cartagena, and Barcelona), to the south of France (Antibes, Nice, Eze, St. Paul de Vence, Arles, Avignon), then a month in Paris, France. We climbed mountains, descended into the Paris Metro, dodged pickpockets, endured nasty weather and illness, and witnessed the flood of the century. Readers say they feel like they are right there with us on the journey, and laugh out loud. Cover design by Liesl Walsh, using her photograph of Rue de l'Abreuvoir in Montmartre, Paris, with Sacre Coeur in the distance. Original photo can be seen separately ("Cobblestone Street in Montmarte, Paris"). This book will be available on Amazon very soon!

Liesl Walsh's Fine Art America Billboard Liquid Light Nov 2022 Clearwater, FL

My photo "Liquid Light" of the Venice Fishing Pier won the 2022 Fine Art America Billboard contest on 9-15-2022. I had to ask the public via social media to get votes to make it into the finals. I had to get at least 100 votes to make it to the finals and received 111 votes. Most of the people who voted for me were from Venice and Sarasota County, some were out of state. My 111 votes placed my image #86 out of 17,456 images submitted and 6652 artists worldwide. There were 192 images that made it into the finals (getting 100 votes or more). Out of the 192 Fine Art America chose the top 20 images to be placed on a billboard in a major US city this November. My image was juried into the top 20! My image is hanging on a billboard in Clearwater, Florida November 2022. Here is the location: It is on US 19 in Clearwater/Largo facing north just south of the intersection of Belleair Rd. So if you are traveling from the Clearwater airport going southbound on US 19 towards Venice the billboard will be on the right side of the road right after you pass Tasca Buick GMC Clearwater. The billboard stands near A&N Italian Deli, and the address is 17956 US Hwy 19N, Clearwater, FL 33764.
